Senate Finance Committee approves Burwell nomination
The Senate Finance Committee approved 21-3 Sylvia Mathews Burwell’s nomination to be the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). A vote by the full Senate has not been scheduled but is expected to be held early next month. Burwell was confirmed as the Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) by the Senate in April 2013. She previously served as the president of the Walmart Foundation and president of the Global Development Program at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
