CMS announces delay to Meaningful Use Stage 3 requirements

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced on Friday that it intended to delay, for one year, the requirements for providers to meet Meaningful Use Stage 3 requirements. Stage 2 will start in 2015 and continue through 2016. Stage 3 requirements, which have not yet been announced, will begin in 2017.  NRHA has long fought for a delay in Stage 2 and Stage 3 requirements to better allow all rural facilities the ability to purchase the required technologies, implement them at their facilities, and attest to CMS that they are Meaningful Use compliant.  NRHA applauds the decision to delay Stage 3 and will continue to work to make sure that resources are available to rural health providers to help them attest to all stages of Meaningful Use.
