Senator Harkin releases report on sequestration

Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) released a report on Wednesday, July 25 about the effects of sequestration on non-defense programs, including funding for the Department of Health and Human Services.  Many rural health programs, like the Rural Health Flexibility Grants, Rural Health Outreach Grants, and Rural Policy Development Grants are funded annually by appropriators and may be affected by funding caps imposed in sequestration.  Furthermore, agencies such as ARHQ and NIH would be subject to across-the-board cuts imposed by sequestration.  The full report is available here. NRHA continues to advocate for modifications to sequestration that will protect rural patients and providers.
